This module focuses on self-advocacy, negotiation, conflict resolution skills, encouragement, and challenging stereotypes and assumptions. ​

This module has been developed for executive teams at Band 9 and above, chief executives, consultants, managers up to Band 9, senior SAS and LE doctors, resident doctors, SAS and LE doctors, midwives, nurses and allied health professionals.

When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

  • develop greater self-awareness by recognising your own values, strengths, and lived experiences as foundations for empowerment
  • practise self-assertiveness to express needs, boundaries, and perspectives with clarity and confidence
  • apply active bystander skills to safely and effectively intervene when witnessing discrimination, micro-aggressions, or inappropriate behaviour
  • build confidence in speaking up in the workplace, raising concerns constructively while contributing to psychological safety
  • challenge stigmas and assumptions that perpetuate inequity, bias, or exclusion in clinical and organisational settings
  • contribute to an NHS culture where equity, respect, and inclusion are embedded, from the boardroom to the bedside.
