Research is the foundation for rationally applied health care in the modern era. It provides the essential underpinning to evidence-based practice in many disciplines. It is essential to recognise the central importance of research and help with research activity. This course provides an overview of the principle and planning of research.

When you have completed this course, you will be able to:

  • explain the difference between audit and research
  • describe how to plan and analyse a research project
  • summarise basic statistical methods
  • recognise the principles of research ethics and conflicts of interest
  • explain the principles of critical reading and undertake a critical review of scientific literature.

Jodie is an Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainee in the Severn deanery. Jodie has a keen interest in research and education, having completed a year as a clinical teaching fellow at the University of Bristol prior to training.

This course is intended to help clinicians gain core knowledge for O&G training and the MRCOG examinations. It can also be used by O&G consultants to refresh their knowledge of the area or for teaching.
