This course is part of the RCOG Core Knowledge series.
This course will give you an understanding of the applied anatomy of the external genitalia and the perineum.
It covers the basic principles underpinning safe and effective perineal surgery and some of the procedures employed for the operative treatment of specific perineal conditions including Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIs).
When you have completed this course, you will be able to:
- describe the anatomy of the external genitalia
- recognise the common vulval and perineal conditions requiring surgical intervention and the surgical procedures used to treat them
- discuss some of the less common procedures carried out on the perineum and vulva and their indications
- summarise the principles of management, repair and prevention of OASIs.
