This course is part of the RCOG Core Knowledge series.
This course addresses issues relating to clinical governance that are required knowledge for working in a modern day NHS in the UK. It provides an introduction to the various components of clinical governance.
When you have completed this course, you will be able to:
- define how clinical governance should lead to quality improvement within a compassionate framework by supporting and empowering colleagues to practice the values of the NHS
- describe the different aspects of clinical governance as a platform for continuous improvement of patient centred services
- explain the purposes and methods of risk management in the NHS
- describe the application of the audit cycle
- outline the process for developing and applying clinical guidelines
- understand the use of peer review, multidisciplinary analysis and patient concerns to improve leaning by promoting transparency when assessing incidents
- describe how the NHS deals with complaints about its services
- understand the relationship between the service inspection by the care quality commission and clinical governance.
Miss Roshni R Patel MRCOG (2023)
Roshni Patel holds a PhD in obstetric epidemiology from the University of Bristol and is a Consultant Obstetrician in maternal medicine at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. She is the Head of O+G for undergraduates at Imperial College London and the lead obstetric collaborator for MBRRACE-UK.
Miss Eleanor Sein MRCOG (2023)
Eleanor Sein is a specialist registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has an MD(res) in medical education from Imperial College London, a postgraduate diploma in Medical Education and has worked as a clinical teaching fellow for Imperial College London.
