When you have completed this course, you will be able to:

  • have an understanding of hypoxia
  • recognise the current rates of stillbirth, neonatal mortality in the UK
  • describe the process for carrying out an assessment of a neonate at birth
  • state criteria for diagnosis of intrapartum asphyxia
  • identify different types of hypoxia
  • list possible effects of hypoxia on the fetus
  • have a basic understanding of hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy and cerebral palsy
  • understand the issues relating to risk management and governance.

Dr Lynsey Doran MBCHB MRCPCH (2022) 

Dr Lynsey Doran (MBCHB, MRCPCH) is an ST4 in paediatrics at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. She has worked in paediatrics and neonatal units throughout the west of Scotland. Interests include paediatric intensive care medicine and paediatric infectious diseases. She is currently undertaking a PGCert in Child Health from Glasgow university.

 

Dr Kirstin Silf MBBS MMedSci PGCert MRCOG (2022)

Dr Silf is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the University Hospital of Crosshouse in Ayrshire. She contributes to risk management and MBRRACE reporting within her department. Her special interests include high-risk obstetrics, ambulatory gynaecology and medical education. She has completed a postgraduate certificate in medical education through Dundee University, and supports both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the unit.

This course is intended to help clinicians gain core knowledge for O&G training and the MRCOG examinations. It can also be used by O&G consultants to refresh their knowledge of the area or for teaching.
