Welcome to this Making Abortion Safe course on Risks and challenges.
Advocacy comes with risks and challenges, some of which have been considered in previous courses.
Considering the risks of what you’re planning is very important. Advocacy always has the potential to generate opposition – and efforts to expand access to safe abortion and post-abortion care may become a target for anti-choice groups active in many countries. Your efforts and your messaging can also be misunderstood, misinterpreted or lead to undesirable outcomes.
This course focuses on the most common risks and challenges that you or your organisation may face when advocating for safe abortion access, together with suggestions for how to mitigate and overcome them.
When you have completed this course you will be able to:
- describe the risks and challenges involved in advocacy to expand safe abortion (SA) and post-abortion care (PAC) access
- conduct a risk assessment
- identify ways to mitigate risks and address challenges
- develop strategies to respond to opposition.
