Non-technical skills are essential for good patient outcomes and patient safety, with reports consistently showing that human factors contribute to a significant proportion of adverse outcomes.
The new RCOG curriculum emphasises the requirement for modern consultants to have good non-technical skills. Trainees should use the NOTSS tool as evidence to support decisions about competence in 8 of the 14 Capabilities in Practice (CiPs).
Originally developed for use in surgery, NOTSS is a behavioural marker system that has been adapted for use in O&G. It is a formative tool and can be used at any training level (ST1-ST7) across a variety of clinical settings.
This course describes how NOTSS can be used in O&G.
