Welcome to this Making Abortion Safe course on Managing abortion-related emergencies and adverse outcomes.

This course contains videos and activities to help you:

  • identify individuals who are unwell during and after an abortion
  • manage abortion-related emergencies, and
  • recognise and treat abortion-related adverse outcomes.

The course also contains additional resources for women and pregnant people, and for healthcare providers and educators.

When you have completed this course you will be able to:

  • understand that complications from medical and surgical abortions are uncommon.
  • understand how to treat patients who present in shock
  • be able to give clear advice about when and where to seek medical advice should a patient have any symptoms of a late complication.
