This course is part of the RCOG Core Knowledge series.

Infectious diseases acquired during pregnancy can have a serious impact on both the woman and the fetus.

In the latest triennial MBRRACE report (2019-2021) there were 78 deaths attributed to sepsis. Maternal infection remains a significant contributor to maternal mortality worldwide.

This course looks at the aetiology, diagnosis, implications and management of some common bacterial, viral and parasitical infections.

When you have completed this course you will be able to:

  • diagnose infectious diseases
  • describe the implications in pregnancy and for the newborn
  • manage the disease appropriately.
