This course is part of the RCOG Core Knowledge series.
Laparoscopic surgery is increasingly being used to diagnose and treat patients presenting with acute and chronic surgical/gynaecological disorders. As the technology and surgical experience have improved, more patients are managed exclusively using laparoscopic surgery.
The aim of this course is to teach a standard set of cognitive skills in laparoscopic surgery to trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology, with the aim that this knowledge will help to ensure a minimal standard of care for all patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery.
When you have completed this course, you will be able to:
- understand the evidence for the use of laparoscopic surgery/laparoscopic simulation training
- understand the preoperative considerations in laparoscopic surgery
- -understand the issues surrounding consent in laparoscopic surgery -be familiar with laparoscopic equipment and theatre
- be aware of laparoscopic physiology and entry techniques -know about common laparoscopic procedures
- have an understanding of postoperative care and complications.
