This course is part of the RCOG Core Knowledge series.

Laparoscopic surgery is increasingly being used to diagnose and treat patients presenting with acute and chronic surgical/gynaecological disorders. As the technology and surgical experience have improved, more patients are managed exclusively using laparoscopic surgery.

When you have completed this course, you will be able to:

  • understand the evidence for the use of laparoscopic surgery/laparoscopic simulation training
  • understand the preoperative considerations in laparoscopic surgery
  • -understand the issues surrounding consent in laparoscopic surgery -be familiar with laparoscopic equipment and theatre
  • be aware of laparoscopic physiology and entry techniques -know about common laparoscopic procedures
