Welcome to this Special Interest Training course on Early medical abortion.

When you have completed this course, you will be able to:

• know the drug regimens used in early medical abortion, also called EMA, and understand their mechanisms of action
• be able to list side effects of treatment and explain their management
• understand the advice women need when undergoing a medical abortion at home, including when to seek medical attention
• know if and when follow up is required and methods for confirming complete abortion
• be able to describe the contraceptive methods that can be used after medical abortion and the timing of their initiation.
