This course is part of the RCOG Core Knowledge series.
Diabetes is the most common pre-existing medical disorder seen in pregnancy, and gestational diabetes is the most common complication in pregnancy, affecting 10-20% of pregnancies. This course aims to cover these 3 forms of diabetes; their pathophysiology, risk factors, complications and management; and signpost you to key documents to support your clinical decision making.
When you have completed this course you will know about:
- type 1 and type 2 pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes
- risks associated with diabetes in pregnancy and how to mitigate and monitor for them
- how to care for women with diabetes in the pre-conception, antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum periods
- Medication used to managed diabetes.
