This course is part of the RCOG Core Knowledge series.
Assessment of progress in labour is a vital skill to acquire and is an integral part of managing a woman in her labour.
A diagnosis of inadequate progress either in the first or second stage will allow management decisions to be made to avoid cases of prolonged labour and dystocia.
When you have completed this course, you will be able to:
- recognise dysfunctional labour when reviewing partograms
- recognise the potential causes for dysfunctional labour
- have a knowledge of management and counselling regarding vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC).
Dr Kirstin Silf MRCOG (2020, 2022)
Kirstin is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the University Hospital of Crosshouse in Ayrshire. Her special interests include high-risk obstetrics, ambulatory gynaecology and medical education. She has completed a postgraduate certificate in medical education through Dundee University, and supports both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the unit.
