Welcome to this Special Interest Training course on Acute abdomen.

When you have completed this course, you will be able to:

  • be able to understand and interpret important points from a detailed history for women presenting with acute abdomen
  • arrange appropriate investigations to form a working diagnosis with a short list of differential diagnosis
  • understand the importance of adopting a multidisciplinary approach and the need for patient-centered care when managing women with acute abdomen
  • appreciate that sometimes patients presenting with an acute abdomen may not have a straightforward and obvious diagnosis. The aim should be to investigate and treat the patient as a whole. Good communication between professionals is the key to avoiding any problems should the patient need to be transferred to another specialty.
