- Ovarian cysts are a common cause of admission to hospital.
- The majority of cysts are benign and resolve in 2-3 cycles.
- The incidence of malignancy is higher in post menopausal women.
- Cyst haemorrhage or rupture can generally be managed conservatively.
- Cyst torsion requires surgical de-torsion but not always oophorectomy.
- Ca125 is of limited use in the acute setting but may guide long term management.
