There are many different instruments and ventouse and forceps delivery are associated with different risks and benefits.
Choice should be determined by:
- instrument most appropriate to the clinical circumstances
- operator’s level of skill.
Rotational deliveries should only be performed by experienced operators:
- rotational ventouse (metal cup/kiwi omnicup)
- manual rotation and forceps
- Kielland's forceps
